General Meeting Minutes for January 8, 2008

 

·        Summary

    • Meeting held at Azalea Park Rec. Center

    • Called to order by Tom Lashbrook, President, at 6:30 PM

    • Officers: Sandy Weeks (Vice President), Mark Pennington (Treasurer), Bob Walters (Ambassador), and Shannon Whitmore (Secretary) in attendance. 

    • 22 residents and visitors attended the meeting

 

  • Toni Atkins Office

    • Kim is really sick so Larry is in here place

    • X-mas tree recycling – 3 places

      • Golden Hill Recreation Center, Oak Park Center, SDSU parking lot

      • Or cut it into chunks

    • New park at Cherokee Point – Friday January 11: Ground breaking

      • Over by CP Elementary

    • New street sweeping pilot program for all of city heights

      • Not in Azalea park

      • New no parking signs

·        APNA business

o       Decoration awards were handed out.  A list of homes were printed in the Parkster.

o       Holiday party was a success

·        We collected 148 pounds of food on that day

o       Send email to flash@azaleapark.org to ask to be added to The Flash email list.

o       Design Committee

·        City has evaluated the budget

·        They don’t think there is enough money

·        Caltrans has said no to the sign on the 805 bridge

·        Meeting this coming Thursday at Evie’s house

·        Tom thinks this WILL happen

·        Ceramic classes will resume once we have a schedule

 

·        Announcements

 

o       Code Compliance pamphlets available at the meeting

o       March 13: Candidate Forum at the Church of the Brethren

·        All candidates for city counsel seat will be participating

·        Joint Fairmount Park/AP event

·        South Castle will have a forum next month.  Not sure of the date.

o       Manzanita Canyon Cleanup: February 2

·        Sponsored by Eddie and Robin

·        At the Canyon head

o       Car thefts

·        Neighbor had car stolen and did not report it

·        Mark is going to contact our CRO

o       City Heights Town Council is now functioning

·        The money is now available

·        Goals:

1.      Offer training to the community on how to be an activist

1.      Neighborhood association officers

2.      Graffiti program that we may want to look into

3.      Sponsoring health fairs and bicycle helmet giveaways

4.      Looking for support and interest in a Taste of City Height

1.      Restaurant each month

o       City Heights Farmer’s Market

·        Start date: June

·        Planning meeting on Thursday January 24th from 6 to 7:30 at the City Heights Wellness Center (behind library)

o       City Heights Area Planning Committee

·        Fairmount Street changing to a one way north bound

1.      There was a fairly strong representation who do not want this

2.      People on 43rd do not want to see increased traffic.

3.      Contact Jim Varnadore or Liz to give feedback

·        City Heights PAC elections

1.      We need new good people to fill those spaces

2.      Need to be a resident

3.      Not a property owner

4.      Election is on March 3, applications need to be received by February 23

5.      Please vote

o       Pride – July 19, 20

·        Theme is Love, Joy, Be

·        Going along with the National Pride logo

·        Want to start thinking about incorporating our float into the theme of pride.

·        There is a t-shirt logo contest.  Deadline is February. 

o       Next APNA meeting: Tuesday February 12, 6:30 PM
