General Meeting Minutes for February 13, 2007

 

·       Summary

    • Meeting at Azalea Park Rec. Center
    • Called to order by Linda Pennington, president, at 6:30 PM
    • Officers: Tom Lashbrook (VP), Mark Pennington (Treasurer), Bob Walters (Ambassador), and Shannon Whitmore (Secretary) in attendance
    • 29 residents and visitors attended the meeting

·       Bylaws

o     Passed out and read out loud by Tom Herman

o     Motion moved and seconded to amend the bylaws. Motion carried unanimously

·       Ron Roberts Office – Rebecca Leister

    • Passed out a Free Tax Assistance Flyer.  Earned income tax credit for people who made less than $39,000 last year.   Free income tax help is available
    • Announcement that Ron Roberts has made funds available to Azalea Park for Audio/Visual equipment, banners, etc

·       Facelift

    • A wonderful PowerPoint presentation by Linda and Michael Sprague on the work performed during Fall Facelift

·       Toni Atkins Office – Pam Ison/Katrina Crawford

    • Pam will no longer be Toni’s rep for Azalea Park
    • Katrina Crawford (from ACLU) was introduced as Toni’s new representative for Azalea park
    • Pam will still be in City Heights working with redevelopment and park related issues
    • An appraisal is in the works for the vacant lot next to the park 
    • Working on encroachment issues at the south end of Azalea Park  Neighborhood code enforcement issued a citation for 5 cars parked on park land
    • Distributed copies of the most recent newsletter (Toni Times)
    • The proposed water/sewer rate increase to be considered by the counsel on February 26.  Any protests must be in writing and filed with the city by February 26 for water and sewer costs

·       APNA Awards

    • Pam Ison, for her work with the APNA as Toni Atkins representative
    • San Diego Urban Corp  - For their quick (day or two) response for graffiti removal

·       City Heights Area Planning Committee - Patty Vaccariello

    • Annual Elections: Monday March 5 from 3 to 8 PM at the Metro Career Center
    • Deadline is Monday Feb 26 for declaring candidacy; please volunteer
    • This committee reviews large projects (like the school) and small projects (like new stop signs)

·       Pepper Canyon Cleanup announcement, February 23 and 24

    • Meet at Pepper Canyon at 9AM
    • Linda hopes to get some work done at Jamie’s way as well, since there was a fire there on Friday afternoon
    • Pastries and juices will be provided for breakfast; sandwiches for lunch
    • RSVP with Linda if you plan to participate

·       Community Cleanup and Recycling announcement, Saturday March 3

    • Old carpeting, furniture, lawnmowers, mattresses, metals, wood scraps, yard waste
    • Contact Linda if you are not in the area and have things to put in the packer
    • Be prepared to help Ray load the truck with appliances or other metal for recycling
    • Separate waste, metals and greens

·       Congresswoman Susan Davis (Todd Gloria)

    • Passed out newsletter (The Davis Dispatch)
    • Congresswoman Davis’s office is at 4305 University Avenue. 

·       Other Announcements

    • Hamilton PTO - Rosilla Berto
      • Fundraiser: $5 gifts and $3.50 balloons being sold at the school in the auditorium tomorrow
      • The PTO has been putting bylaws together
      • The last fundraiser raised $10,000 for the school
      • GPA went up 10%
      • Need volunteers
    • Design committee – Tom Lashbrook
      • Wants to start tile classes again this spring at Grace Church and at the Recreation center
      • Need volunteers to come and supervise
      • Schedule will be available next meeting
