General Meeting Minutes for May 8, 2007

 

·        Summary

    • Meeting held at Azalea Park Rec. Center

    • Called to order by Linda Pennington, president, at 6:30 PM

    • Officers: Tom Lashbrook (VP), Mark Pennington (Treasurer), Bob Walters (Ambassador), and Shannon Whitmore (Secretary) in attendance

    • 22 residents and visitors attended the meeting

 

·        SDPD – Captain Swanger

    • Murder at Bay View Heights (Federal past Euclid)

      • Gang shooting

      • They have leads on it

    • There is now an administrative program to deal with large parties, put in place April 30

    • Crime is down in AP (except for residential burglaries)

      • Close your windows!  Most burglars go through open windows and unlocked doors

      • Between 10AM and 4PM is when it happens, when people are away working

    • Business burglaries – burglars are coming in through the roofs

    • Several mail thefts in the neighborhood

      • Please call 531-8200 (postal inspector) to report all mail thefts.

·        Pride: Saturday July 21 is the parade

    • This is our 15th year

    • Information in the Parkster

    • Donations are now being accepted

 

·        Ron Roberts Office – Rebecca Leister

    • Annual lawn mower trade in event next Saturday

      • $150 battery rechargeable plugin mower

    • Next board meeting is on the 15th

    • Bike Safety fair – only 47 helmets left over out of 500

    • International festival is June 2

 

·        Toni Atkins Office – Katrina Crawford

    • Thursday May 10 from 9 to 10: come to speak on neighborhood code compliance

    •  

·        LaRue Fields – City Heights Square Senior Facilty

    • Rents will depend on the tax bracket

    • There are 150 units and there are still openings

    • The building will be finished around August

 

·        APNA Awards

    • Carolyn and Anthony Grondin, Grondin Construction

      • For repainting the house across the street from Mark and Linda

      • The initial color was a mistake

      • The company put on two coats of new paint for free

      • Most of their work is for the city of San Diego housing commission

    • Mike McPherson for the neighborhood rummage sale

    • Tuberose remodeling effort

      •  

·        Mayors Budget Meeting

    • No parks and rec or library personnel will be cut

    • 9% raise to the police department

    • Fine print of report says the major plans to eliminate the performance annex’s associated management analyst, who lives in AP

    • Linda prepared a letter that was signed at the meeting requesting that this position not go away

 

  • Susan Davis’s office – Todd Gloria

    • Last week the house past the Head Start act

      • Expands head start eligibility so more kids can participate

    • Postal rates will increase on May 14

    • Rubber stamps on sale now – good for any rate –

    • Summer season – mandatory for US citizens to have passports when traveling by air.

    • Todd announced that he is going to run for Toni’s seat

 

·        Other Announcements

o       Movie will be shown on May 21 at the City Heights Performance Annex – disaster relief.  Everyone is invited

o       Rosia: T-shirt celebration – stop by and buy a balloon at the school

o       Next Design Committee meeting – Thursday at Tom Lashbrook’s house

o       Next APNA meeting: Tuesday June 8, 6:30 PM
