General Meeting Minutes for June 12, 2007

 

·        Summary

    • Meeting held at Azalea Park Rec. Center

    • Called to order by Linda Pennington, president, at 6:32 PM

    • Officers: Tom Lashbrook (VP), Mark Pennington (Treasurer), Bob Walters (Ambassador), and Shannon Whitmore (Secretary) in attendance

    • 33 residents and visitors attended the meeting

 

·        SAY San Diego –– Carolyn Smyth

o       Assists with drug/alcohol problems in the neighborhood --any drug related activity

o       City Ordinance: There cannot be alcohol advertisements within 500 feet of a child sensitive area, such as a school

o       Please let them know about any violations

o       SAY San Diego uses the SDPD Vice Department hotline –

·        There is also a form online that can be filled out

·        Police department recommends that because you can provide more information.

 

·        Ron Roberts Office – Rebecca Leister

o       Budget deliberations for 2007/2008 happening now

o       501C3 and non-profits can apply for funding

o       MTS – no smoking campaign – new ordinance – no smoking within 25 ft of bus stops, enforced by MTS only. $75 ticket for violations.

o       Boards and Commissions – actively appointing members to over 40 committees; most of them meet once a month.  Please volunteer if interested

o       Registrar of voters – Walt Eckard – 531-5880 for feedback on San Diego county employees

o       Ron will attend the Pride Parade and the August meeting

 

·        Toni Atkins Office – Katrina Crawford

o       Mid City Police advisory meeting – August 1, 6:30-8

·        Fireworks are illegal in San Diego and dangerous because of the canyons

·        Very hot summer expected – drink lots of water

·        911 communications –as a citizen you can sit in on a day in the life of a 911.  Contact Katrina for details

·        Auto theft – park in a well lit area, lock doors, roll up windows, don’t leave goodies in the car.

·        Contact CRO Pat Norris if you have more questions.

o       Performance Annex position has been reinstated

o       Dead Sea Scrolls are on exhibit soon!

 

·        APNA Awards (see Parkster)

·        Laurie Carlock – amazing cleanup in Manzanita Canyon – 50 people

·        Hilda at the  City Brush Management Department

·        Karen and Clark – Alpha project crew

 

·        Facelift/Project Clean

o       21 palms planted

o       350 volunteers

 

·        Amelia – organic produce

o       Vegetables picked 2 days before (7-10 days is typical)

o       One box is $26 a week

o       Arrange with the CSA farm to do a pickup location here

o       Need 20 folks

o       Be Wise Ranch

 

·        Pride – theme – be yourself in azalea park

o       This is our 15th year

o       Tom will lead (chair) this if he can get some support

o       Mark will put together the float

o       Represent as many of the 15 years as possible

o       Pick a picture to blow up – pick up the cost ($25) for blowing up the picture

o       Date: July 21st

·        Other Announcements

o       Linda Irene is having a potluck on the 30th starting at noon -- everyone is invited

o       Green Robin Landscape is having a big sale – clearing out sale

·        They are coming back to the neighborhood=

o       Next APNA meeting: Tuesday July 10, 6:30 PM
