General Meeting Minutes for August 14, 2007

 

·        Summary

    • Meeting held at Azalea Park Rec. Center

    • Called to order by Tom Lashbrook, Vice President, at 6:35 PM

    • Officers: Mark Pennington (Treasurer), Bob Walters (Ambassador), and Shannon Whitmore (Secretary) in attendance

    • 28 residents and visitors attended the meeting

 

 

·        County Supervisor: Ron Roberts

o       County’s credit rating is the one of the highest in the country

·        County’s budget 4.7 billion dollars is larger than about 20 states

o       Disaster preparedness

·        A new system for mass notification has been approved

·        Old system made 40,000 calls an hour

·        New system can make 400,000 calls an hour

·        Police departments will have access to use it as a local emergency announcement system (missing child, canyon fire, break in water main, etc)

·        Provided free of charge to all of the cities

·        Every land line number will automatically be in there, including unlisted numbers

·        Cells phones will be called as well. 

·        There will be an opportunity to register email numbers.

o       Public health

·        There has been no fluorination in the water in San Diego, which is causing problems with dental hygiene in schools

·        Problem with dental hygiene in schools

·        Goal is to provide fluorinated water all over the county

·        Probably take about a year to put the system in place

o       Child Obesity

·        Working with the school districts to put a number of programs in place

·        Putting together a DVD for schools that do not have physical education specialists

o       Proposal for a county park on the waterfront

·        From Ash to Grape street

·        Take out all of the parking

o       Air quality

·        The air we breath ago is vastly cleaner with respect to ozone

·        There has been an improvement every year

·        Lawn mower trade in – 3500/4000 gas mowers taken out of circulation

1.      Program has been going on for 6 years

o       Design Committee Project Preliminary budget

·        The cost is going to be a lot more than is in the budget

·        Needs to be trimmed down and fit into the budget as much as possible

o       Sell coupon books to do fundraising for APNA

·        Association would receive 8$ a book

o       Volleyball is starting again in Hollywood Park

o       Sandy and Marina are hosting a movie night
