General Meeting Minutes for October 9, 2007

 

·        Summary

    • Meeting held at Azalea Park Rec. Center

    • Called to order by Tom Lashbrook, President, at 6:31 PM

    • Officers: Sandy Weeks, Vice President, Mark Pennington (Treasurer), Bob Walters (Ambassador), and Shannon Whitmore (Secretary) in attendance

    • 25 residents and visitors attended the meeting



·        Ron Roberts Office: Rebecca Leister

o       Stop Elder Abuse month

o       September 30th: There will be a law enforcement memorial

o       Blackwater will not come in front of board of supervisors before 2008

o       Ron will be at the Little Italy booth this Sunday

 

·        Toni Atkins Office: Kim Nguyen

o       New Toni Times passed out

o       Because of the land slide issue in La Jolla, the streets department are reviewing potential slide issues in local canyons

o       Call Kim for any city related issues

o       There was a request for parking patrols on Pepper and Poplar streets

 

·        APNA business

o       Popcorn popper:

·        Got an OK to purchase a popcorn machine for $500

·        It was used for the movie night

·        It has been returned because it is too slow and had some safety issues

·        South Castle

o       Will be having their meetings at Florence Griffith Joyner elementary on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6PM.

·        There is an outreach teacher for getting the children involved in the community.

·        95% of the audience speaks Spanish.

·        The Face Lift presentation was given to the parents.

o       Involved in lots of canyon cleanups

o       Will participate in Face Lift

 

·        Face Lift

o       Azalea Park team requested for Face Lift.

o       From 8AM to 2PM on November 3.

o       Send email to Linda to sign up.

 

·        Other Announcements

o       Eddie and Robin

·        Halloween Party: Adults only

·        Friends and neighbors welcome

·        Prizes and raffles

·        Potluck

o       Steve Francis for Mayor

·        Wants to come to a neighborhood association meeting

o       Movie in the park report (Georgina)

·        Huge success

·        Gave out free popcorn, hotdogs, fruit, juices, water, and cookies.

·        Looking for volunteers for the next event: Halloween

·        Still need people to work the game booths

·        Still needs donations (prizes and money)

o       Karen reelected to the PAC redevelopment committee

·        Projects are still fairly big.

·        May be able to do some sidewalks.

·        Revenues are up.  Potential to do bigger projects.

·        La Maestra Clinic: Fairmount and 43rd

1.      Retail will be on the bottom

2.      Future Price Charities building will be in the same area

3.      Redevelopment committee owns the land where Jack in the Box is located.

4.      Power for the clinic is under the Jack in the Box.

o       City Farmers

·        Autumn Craft Fair and pumpkin growing contest: October 20

·        They have offered Azalea Park a booth spot

o       Graffiti

·        There has been a resurgence

·        Clean it up as soon as possible if it is on your property

1.      Linda can get you paint and supplies

·        Contact Urban Core for  sidewalks, signs, and brick walls

·        Store failed to clean their graffiti

o       Local Market

·        Once again the market is selling expired baby food.

·        A couple of years the same thing happened

o       2704 Tuberose

·        Lost their section 8 privileges

·        Will be out in the 15th

·        Can the community work with the landlord to make things better?

·        Possible prostitution and drug dealing in other apartments.
