AZALEA PARK DESIGN COMMITTEE DRAFT MEETING MINUTES 6:30
pm, Friday, July 23, 2004 3934
Manzanita Drive Attendance:
Liz, Vicki, Evie, Linda, Michael, Tom, Larry 1.
Member input – Vicki passed around a flyer from a
company that specializes in making banners for street decoration.
Michael Sprague stated that the City Heights Business Association is
required to provide banners as part of their contract with the City.
They are also required to change them relatively frequently. They are
not currently sponsoring any, so it would be possible to ask for them.
All we need to do is to send them a letter with our request. Vicki
suggested that the next application cycle with the arts grant could be
to teach people in the neighborhood to silkscreen banners. Tom
volunteered to write the letter with Evie’s assistance. Vicki also gave information to
Linda on community arts projects that are going on around San Diego. Liz stated that a representative
from the ASLA contacted her about the $5000 grant, and that she had
forwarded a copy of one of the conceptual designs to the ASLA. 2.
Approval of minutes from 7/9/04 – minutes not yet
ready. 3.
Neighborhood Identification Signage – Liz stated
that she had not yet received the revised design from Harmon, but that
she had sent an article in to the Parkster to advertise about the
meeting where a concept would be chosen. Liz asked where else the
designs might be advertised. Several suggestions included posting at the
rec center and going to the churches. Tom stated that he would talk to
Kurt from Grace Church about the signage. 4.
Aesthetic treatments for park improvements – Tom
stated that he had gone to the Recreation council meeting and that the
idea of aesthetic treatments for the ADA ramp was conceptually okayed.
The committee discussed several ideas for having strips of mosaic along
the ramp before deciding to ask the contractor to simply lay strips of
wood (1x4’s or 2x4’s) to hold a space within the curb. The wood
could later be removed and decorative tile put in its place when a
design theme was decided upon. 5.
