Construction of the Water
Conservation Garden 2010
In 2008, Councilperson Toni Atkins helped
the Parks and Recreation department to purchase a vacant piece of land
ajacant to the park. Nobody had any money to develop the land,
but it was now part of Azalea Park and available for some idea
growing. After an offer from Rebuilding Together and lots and
lots of meetings with Vicki Estrada, city officials, park officials,
residents and many others, a plan emerged.
This was an unusual situation for
Parksters. Other people doing stuff for us? But we didn't
just stand by and watch. We dug in and joined hundreds of other
volunteers to make this park happen.
Special thanks to the local artists who
donated their work to our beautiful park.
